Manuel Antonio River Rafting

MANUEL ANTONIO RIVER RAFTING TRIPS

Savegre White Water Rafting

This adventurous, family-friendly, full-day trip is a unique white water river rafting adventure with lots of “perks”. As the Manuel Antonio specialists, you can expect our world-class, internationally-trained, bilingual guides and safety kayakers will expertly guide and teach you how to navigate through this exciting river experience. You and the fellow rafters will start slowly and build your way up to a breathtaking yet manageable adventure that will leave you either begging for more ( go on the Naranjo River high-octane trip next) or leaving completely satisfied and happy that you experienced one of Costa Rica’s famous rivers, the Savegre. Starting with a 4x4 ride into the “wild” of Costa Rica’s tropical jungle with awe-inspiring scenery of more remote areas of the Savegre, your journey begins at “Silencio”. This is a little local village of thatched-roof dwellings. After a “bumpy road” journey, you will enjoy a typical Tico breakfast before taking on the Savegre. Ensure that you make reservations for lunch, and don’t forget to meander through the beautiful flora and fauna of the surrounding African Palm Plantations. You´re now ready to head off into the winding mountains to start the rafting leg of your journey.

The Savegre River provides Class II, III, and IV rapids that are manageable in sturdy rafts that accommodate 2 to 6 people comfortably. Our guides stop at locally known swimming spots and magnificent waterfalls (if the rafters want a break from paddling), and you´ll have the chance to enjoy the abundant variety of wildlife along the river. On most trips, rafters will observe egrets, osprey, toucans, parrots, king mackerels, cormorants, and many other species local to this protected area of the primary tropical rain forest. After a steady 13 mile trip down the river, we wind our way back to the little village of “Silencio” for a replenishing hot lunch “Tico Style” and local refreshments. Our satisfied, well-traveled, and now experienced Savegre River rafters enjoy a leisurely trip back home to Manuel Antonio. Next, consider a rafting experience on the Naranjo River or simply savor the blissful experience of the Savegre.

Naranjo White Water Rafting

The wild and ever-changing Naranjo River White Water Rafting challenge is recommended for physically fit adventure seekers and experienced rafters who are familiar with Class III and IV rapids. On this high-octane, half-day adventure, the trip begins when the Naranjo River drops steeply from the Costa Rican mountains and pushes through pristine jungle gorges. It then winds around rocky curves to take you on a wild, adventurous ride back to sea level waters. While your internationally-trained, bilingual guides and safety kayakers work with you to navigate this exciting river, you will swiftly pass stunning farmland, working cattle ranchers, and beautiful African Palm Plantations.

Unlike the Savegre River Adventure, the Naranjo River Rafting Trip packs all its punches in a 7 mile ride that keeps your adrenaline level high for several hours. Water levels can rise rapidly on this Costa Rican treasure of a river, especially during the rainy season (May-October), which creates a small margin for error for any experienced rafter. After an adrenaline-kicking trip, enjoy local snacks and refreshments before heading back to reality… well, back to Manuel Antonio anyway.

Naranjo River Rafting “Chorro Section” (Dry Season)

We are proud of our Manuel Antonio rafting team and the competence of their rafting guides. We want to ensure you safely enjoy yourself in the recently added upper section of the Naranjo River, known as “El Chorro”. This thrilling one–hour section of the river, which runs along a canyon in class III and IV rapids, will trigger your adrenaline and captivate your attention.

This section of the river is easily accessible and conveniently located just 30 minutes from Quepos. Our professional guides will drive you from Quepos through the aesthetic country landscape in the picturesque towns of Naranjito and Villanueva. You will see African palm oil plantations, cattle, and citrus plantations. You will also pass by Villa Vainilla, famous for the production of spices.

Upon arrival at the river´s entrance point, our guides will provide a safety overview and fit you with the necessary equipment. Let the adventure begin! The best advice we can give you is listen to the direction of your tour guides while descending this exhilarating river. The highlights of this adventure are some of the drops into the more intimidating rapids. There will be some key points in the river that require your complete obedience to the guides. But do not fret… we assure your safety and enjoyment as long as you follow the safety protocol.

The wonders of El Chorro will let you soak in the rich environment of the area. Here you will also get exposure to the serene natural pools. Jump in and have a leisure swim while you marvel at the lush and vibrant surrounding forest. After one of the first few sections of rapids, hop off your raft into the cool refreshing water. You may swim or just allow the river’s current to smoothly carry you in your life vest. You can end this swim with the chance to jump off a 15 ft. rock into the deep water, a good photo opportunity! You’ll be able to enjoy some fresh fruit, snacks, and refreshments before embarking on the next adrenaline-pumping set of rapids. Keep in mind the water level is low this time of year, so there may be some sections where you will have to listen to the guide’s orders to get unraveled from the rocks. Enjoy a final refreshing leisure swim in a relaxing and scenic final stretch of river. This is what the local’s refer to as "the mystic river".
