North Pacific Diving: There are many great dive sites around Playas del Coco, and they are just a short
boat ride away from the lodging. Most of the Papagayo dive sites accommodate all levels of experience from
beginners to advanced divers. For more advanced diving we offer diving tours to Catalina Islands (CATs) and
Bat Islands (BATs) Islas Murciélagos. Maximum depths vary from site to site ranging from 30ft (10m) to 120 ft
(35m). All our dive guides are computerized to maximize your bottom time. If you are ready for the thrill and

Snorkeling

Land on beautiful secluded beaches where you will snorkel among some of the world finest volcanic rock formations, which is very rich in marine life. We’ll go to the Catalina’s island and we’ll enjoy of the beautiful manta rays, butterfly fish, angelfish and sea turtles. All snorkeling gear is provided and transportation, fruits and bottled water are also included.

Scuba Dive

Our dive operator is a member of and works under the PADI Association rules, the diving trip is at Catalina Islands 20 miles away from the Flamingo marina, The Catalina Islands are a group of different volcanic rock formations that emerge to the surface off the Flamingo Bay providing the special setting for our abundant marine life. Huge manta rays, white tip reef sharks, spotted eagle rays, devil rays, schools of cow nose rays as well as schools of jacks and grunts are among the most common species that divers usually spot in our rich waters. The bottom is mostly volcanic and the average maximum depth is 70 – 80 feet. Visibility, currents and conditions in general tend to change every day. Currents, when present, are not strong, divers drift with it and the boat follows to pick them up at the end of the dive. Visibility varies from 30 feet to 60-70 feet, depending on the day and the season.

Fishing from Tamarindo is the perfect base for Costa Rica’s world class sport fishing. With the continental shelf a mere 10 miles offshore, blue water species, including blue, black, and striped marlin, pacific sailfish, dorado, yellow fin tuna, wahoo, fall within a short run of all of our captains. Right inside Tamarindo Bay are parked a variety of boats for every sports fishing option.

You can choose from a budget-priced, single engine panga to the fully equipped state-of-the-art electronics, bathroom equipped luxury boat for your seafaring adventure. Also choose between half-day or full-day, inshore or offshore fishing Tamarindo truthfully boasts a 12-month fishing season, with certain months excelling for different fish. Here is a breakdown of the fish that can be caught:

Sailfish: Caught throughout the year, with May through August normally the top season. They may begin to thin out in September and the slowest months are from late August through November.

Marlin: Caught every month of the year, with mid-November to early March exceptional, then slowing a bit from April into early June when it picks up again, peaking in August and September.

Rooster fish: This fabulous species is caught all year, although there are more caught in the Papagayo Bay area from November through March. That may be because more boats in the northernmost area of this region are fishing inshore during those windy months.

Wahoo: The Guanacaste fishing first catches are about the time the rains start in May, peaking in July and August. Most are caught around the rocky points and islands, but you will pick one up occasionally fishing offshore.

Tuna: Guanacaste fishing tuna peak months are probably August through October, but when all else fails, there are always tuna, anytime of the year you want to look for them, and more often than not when you’d just as soon avoid them to concentrate on bill fish. The yellow fin and some Big eye tuna are often found well inside the Catalina Islands, 30 minutes or less running time from the beach.

Dolphin or Dorado: These colorful fish are most abundant from late May through October when the seasonal rains flood the rivers, carrying out debris that form trash lines close inshore that they like to lie under. Troll past a floating log and you’ll likely hook a Dorado.
